Partij van het derde

Arjan "3 uit 3" van Tuijl en Amédée "2 uit 2" Souquet
Hieronder de mooie partij van Amédée, het commentaar is van hemzelf.
Niek

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4 Nbd7 8. Qf3 Be7 9. O-O-O Qc7 10. g4 h6
The idea is to provoke the exchange here, in order to be able to play b5 and develop a king-side attack.
11. Bxf6
11. Bh4 Nxe4 12. Bxe7 Nxc3 13. Nxe6 fxe6 14. Bxd6 Nxa2+ 15. Kb1 Nc3+ 16. bxc3 Qb6+ 17. Kc1 Qc6 White seems better within this variation.
11... gxf6 12. Bh3
White puts some pressure on the e6 pawn and threats to open lines on the black king.
12... b5 13. Rhe1 b4 14. Nce2
14. Nd5 exd5 15. exd5 Kf8 16. Nc6 Not that clear...
14... Bb7 15. Ng3 Rc8 16. Nh5 Nc5 17. Ng3 d5 18. e5 Ne4 19. Nxe4 dxe4 20. Qb3 fxe5 21. fxe5 Qxe5 22. Qa4+ Kf8 23. Qd7 Qd5
Rc7 is more natural and better though.
24. Nxe6+ Qxe6 25. Qxb7 Qxa2 26. Qxc8+ Kg7 27. Qxh8+ Kxh8 28. Rd7 Bg5+ 29. Kd1 Qb1+ 30. Ke2 Qxc2+ 31. Kf1 Qxh2 32. Bg2 Qf4+ 33. Kg1 Kg7 34. Rxe4 Qc1+ 35. Kh2 Bf4+ 36. Kh3 Qxb2 0-1

  1. Cool game, one correction: In your comment after 10. ..h6 you probably mean queenside attack instead of kingside attack.

  2. Great game, Amédée. I saw the position after 16. Nh4 and I expected 16. ...e5, which looked pretty strong to me. Did I miss something? Did you consider e5?

  3. Hi Arjan,

I also noticed this option in the game and it took me a while to see why it is not winning, in fact its losing. Took me a while to spot Ng7+! and then winning the queen by taking with either knight on e6.

  4. @Arjan: I considered both e5 and d5 at this time. e5 might be better, I need to check. However, the reason why I played d5 is that I could still play e5 later.

Playing e5 immediately prevents from being able to push d5 afterwards. Also, Some potential moves like Nf5 and g5, or merely f*e5 also helped me to go for d5.

    What do you think?

  5. @ Sanne: You're absolutely right. Now I understand 16. ...Nc5. Ne5 instead looks kind of interesting, I think, but I can't work it all out and I don't have Fritz or Rybka to help me.

@ Amédée: When you played d5, I think it was much better than e5, which as you said gives up the f5 square to white and gives him the chance to give his bishop more scope. I think I would have preferred to keep the d6-e6-f6 center intact, but I don't see any useful waiting move here, so I guess d5 was your best bet.

I'm glad that in my own game I did't get into such a complicated position, though. I probably would have lost on time.
